In November, one of our residents, Ted, celebrated his 100th birthday. We had a small party at Octagon, which was hosted by his family and friends. It was quite overwhelming for Ted, as his brother, who he hasn’t seen for a few years, came along too.
The wine and beer were flowing, and everyone, including the residents, had an absolutely lovely afternoon. To top off the birthday celebrations, Ted received cards from both the Queen and Teresa May. Ted was thrilled as he loves his politics.
To get us into the Christmas spirit, some of our residents went to a German market at a local garden centre. It was a great day out, with shopping, tea and cake.
We’ve also had our Christmas lunch, where residents, staff, committee members and volunteers get together for a three-course meal. Tomato soup, salmon or prawns was followed by either, gammon, salmon or turkey, with all the trimmings for mains. Then for dessert, Christmas pudding or homemade trifle. This is the day when we hand out the presents too. We must have all been very good this year as there were quite a few to get through.
We’re definitely all ready for Christmas now.
