As the World Cup kicked off this month, many of our residents have been glued to their TVs, avidly following the various matches. However one thing that brought them out and saw them having a ball themselves, was our annual Garden Party, which this year was blessed with wonderfully warm, sunny weather.

The beautiful day saw many residents and visitors taking the opportunity to enjoy our garden. With over 50 people in attendance we were delighted to welcome a large contingent of family from our newest resident, a keen golfer who joined us this month. The party was the perfect way for both him and his family to get to know the rest of the Timberlog clan, while sampling the many goodies laid out on the delicious buffet spread.

Entertainment came from a local accordion player who treated us to some jaunty tunes, and we were also pleased to welcome long term Abbeyfield friend and supporter, John Day, Chairman of Age Matters. Based at the George Hurd centre, the charity provides help and guidance to older people in Basildon and also offers a volunteer befriending service for housebound lonely pensioners.

Thanks to all those who helped and attended, it was a great success, with the entrance fee and raffle raising £400 for our residents’ fund, which will pay for an excursion and meal out next month.
